USA Today bestselling author Mindy Klasky learned to read when her parents shoved a book in her hands and told her she could travel anywhere in the world through stories. She never forgot that advice. Mindy's travels took her through multiple careers—from litigator to librarian to full-time writer. Mindy's travels have also taken her through various literary genres for readers of all ages—from traditional fantasy to paranormal chick-lit to category romance, from middle-grade to young adult to adult. In her spare time, Mindy knits, quilts, and tries to tame her to-be-read shelf.

Center Stage is the next to the last novella in the Diamond Brides Series by Mindy Klasky. Mindy has created a fictional Major League Baseball team and has worked through it position by position crafting entertaining stories for each player and the soul mate they find.
Center Stage is Ryan (center fielder) and Lindsey’s story. Like all of the novellas in this series Mindy has woven a meaningful slice of life story for these two likeable but to this point less than lucky in love characters.
Each story in the series will stand on its own but you would benefit from reading the first in the series “Catching Fire” as it sets up the team and many of the stories to come. While these stories revolve around a baseball team, don’t worry you don’t have to be a baseball fan to enjoy the stories. It is the relationships that are formed that are the driving force in this series. Baseball is just the background.
Ms. Klasky is a talented story teller. There are a lot of people with stories to tell, but not a lot that are good at telling them. She is an astute observer of human nature and has the ability to weave a story that keeps you both entertained and engaged. Each book is a small jewel that is both entertaining and a finely crafted story with an interesting and plausible plot.
My only problem with this series is that there is only one more. She does have boxed sets of the earlier books of the series and you should go ahead and grab them as once you have read one you will want to read them all.
I received a copy of this book for an honest evaluation. Honestly, I enjoyed it as I have all of Mindy’s work.
The premise of the book was inviting, the dialogue was interesting enough, and the writing was good. However, the brevity of the book was rather disappointing. I wished the relationship had taken longer to develop. As is, it was hard for me to gain any excitement about the characters finally getting together. Considering what the heroine had been through, I think there should’ve been more between the first “I need to try to get over what’s happened” kiss vs. the real deal. I understand it’s a novella, but I needed more in order to connect to her and root for her to finally have her happily ever after. Also, the conflict itself was too brief. They weren’t apart long enough for me to start wishing for the reconnection. It seemed to happen too quickly; just like the acceptance of the overprotective brother. Overall, I was not disappointed in the book. It has great potential, but was missing something for my personal taste. I think this would’ve been much better if it had been written as a novel. The situation the bride was in, and her past, was too critical to be written as a novella.
